CONSERVING NATURE / PRESERVING CULTURE

our philosophy
The epiphany on the dire consequences of climate change proceeding in the world is no longer a distant and out-of-reach stigma that only happens in somebody else backyard. Global warming issue had cumulatively affected countless cities around the world and impinge upon the daily lives of the people.

The occurrence of extreme weather events have taken the new norm and combination of these events have resulted in the rising of the sea levels threatening the coastal and low-lying areas of the cities with floods and diminishing the availability of freshwater resource. Coupled with the effects of rapid urbanisation and the constant desire to improve the quality of life for the societies, urban cities are increasingly faced with multiple challenges with their limited land and resources. Most often, the effects of urbanisation are detrimental to the environment and also at the expense of causing social disruption. This unsustainable trade-off has to be reversed and sustainability alone in minimising resource and energy consumption is not enough to recover the damages caused to the environment and addressing the global issues. Less harm is still causing undesirable negative impacts to the ecosystem, rather the notion of regeneration or restoration has to be advocated for positive contributions to the multifaceted capitals of the place.

True sustainability and beyond would, therefore, require collective understanding and integrated approach for all to endeavour and achieve betterment for the common good. The innate affinity of human nature towards other life forms and the natural environment calls for the co-existence of human with nature in an ecological urbanism manner for the remaining millennium.

who we are

Capitalising on the advancement of human knowledge, the scope of Landscape Architects has adapted from mere spatial aesthetic and beautification to a more science-based approach to system planning in meeting beyond the requirements of the development projects while reinforcing the ecological functions and aiming to contribute back to the broader ecosystem and community.
This is our ethos in running a full-fledged award-winning consultancy firm, exposing ourselves to meet the rising needs of the developing cities especially so in the Asia context. Through the wide range of projects that we had undertaken thus far, multifarious initiatives were sensitively undertaken to positively contribute to the associated capitals of the site.

In the exemplar for the redevelopment of Admiralty Park in Singapore as a destination park, the urban context was envisioned as a large-scale play attraction for the regional communities, providing opportunity for recreation and accessible by all for sociocultural use which constructively contribute to human wellness and fostering a sense of place (Genius loci) and belonging. In addition, the various existing natural habitats were conserved and enhanced through selective plantings of complimenting native flora for vegetation dynamics and to intensify the biodiversity foothold in the urban fabric. In the conversion of All Saints Home (Yishun) development, existing vast green spaces were conserved to create a conducive green oasis for the residents while regulating the micro climate and mitigating the site from urban heat island effect. Moreover, communal gardening space was craft out to facilitate the elderly and handicapped residents with a purpose and social good, while urban farming provides fresh food supply and in turn reduce carbon footprint in the farm-to-table movement.
